Getting Started

Q. What is MyLiveBook?

A. In short – MyLiveBook is an eBook delivery and viewing solution allowing you to access, read and annotate digital content.

MyLiveBook is the eBook delivery platform developed specifically for us in the Learning & Education marketplace by LiveBook Limited – part of the KnowledgePoint group of companies.

MyLiveBook allows users to access the courseware relevant to their training course through a local version (desktop reader) or online through various platforms.

With the capability to highlight text and add notes to your eBooks, MyLiveBook enables you to make best use of the courseware.

Q. How can I access MyLiveBook?
A. There are two options through which you can access your eBooks using MyLiveBook:
  • Web Reader: Access your eBooks from any web browser
  • Mobile App: Available for iOS and Android, fully synchronised with your web reader activity with the ability to continue your study offline
Q. How do I create an account?
A. Navigate to the MyLiveBook sign up page here and complete the fields to create your account.
Q. How do I install the MyLiveBook Desktop Reader?
A. Once you have created an account, simply click on the download links at the top of the MyLiveBook web page
Q. Where can I see the eBooks on my account?
A. All books that you have been given access to are displayed in the My eBooks tab of MyLiveBook once you have signed in.  eBooks are added to your account through the use of redemption codes.
Q. What is a Redemption Code?
A. In order to activate content in MyLiveBook your training provider may give you a redemption code (A 36 digit alpha-numeric string).  A redemption code gives you access to one or more books that will be used during your training course or programme.  Redemption codes can be redeemed during the sign up process or from the My Account tab of MyLiveBook once you have signed in.
Q. What features are in the eBook reader?
A. The eBook reader offers the following features:
  • Highlight and Note taking capabilities
  • Resizing of content to suit your viewing preferences
  • Auto bookmark – returns you to the last place you were reading no matter which platform you are using
  • Chapter and/or page level navigation
  • Intelligent search:
    • Search book content
    • Search notes and highlights
    • Suggested search criteria from actual book content

How To

Q. How do I redeem a Code?
A. If you have a redemption code at the time you sign up for your MyLiveBook account then you can copy and paste the 36 digit string (ensure there are no trailing spaces) into the redemption code field during the sign up process.  Upon activating your account you will see the books associated with the redemption code appear in the My eBooks tab of your home page. If you already have a MyLiveBook account and need to claim a redemption code then ensure you are signed in to MyLiveBook and click on the My Account tab.  From here click on Claim a redemption code.  Copy and Paste the 36 digit string (ensure there are no trailing spaces) into the redemption code field and enter your password into the subsequent fields. If you have a redemption code that keeps giving you an error, please speak to your trainer or contact MyLiveBook Support who will check the validity of your redemption code
Q. How do I access my eBooks?
A. In order to access your eBooks you must first have claimed a redemption code.  Once you have claimed at least one redemption code you will see your available eBook titles under the My eBooks tab on the MyLiveBook home page.  Click on the book title and the book will open up in a new tab in your browser window.  As you add more books to your account you will see that your books are listed across multiple pages.  Click the page numbers at the bottom of the My eBooks tab or use the next and previous buttons to move between pages.  You can also use the search box on the My eBooks tab to find an eBook by title or training provider.
Q. How do I navigate through my eBooks?
A. You can navigate through your eBook using:
  • the table of contents navigation tree on the left hand side of the screen
  • the forward and backward arrows at the top of your book
  • in certain eBooks you will also see a previous page button in the top right hand corner of the eBook and a next page button in the bottom right hand corner of the eBook
Q. How do I zoom into the book / increase the font size?
A. Use the + and - icons in the bottom left hand corner of the eBook to zoom in and out
Q. How do I highlight content in my eBooks?
A. There are three ways to highlight content in your eBook
  1. Select the text within the book that you wish to highlight, click on the word "Highlight" at the top of the eBook.  A window will appear allowing you to choose the colour of your highlight – choose the colour you wish to use for your highlight (each highlight colour has an associated, customizable description).  Click save.
  2. Select the text within the book that you wish to highlight, click on the small down arrow next to the word "Highlight" at the top of the eBook.  Choose the colour of your highlight (each highlight colour has an associated, customizable description).
  3. Ensure you have no text selected on screen. Now click on the down arrow next to the word "Highlight" at the top of the eBook, choose the colour you wish to highlight with (each highlight colour has an associated, customizable description), now select text on the page, the text will instantly be highlighted in your selected colour.
Q. How do I change the description associated with a highlight?
A. Open the Edit Highlight window by clicking on any highlight that you have already made in the eBook window or right clicking on the highlight in the Notes and Highlights panel and choosing edit highlight.  Now hover your mouse over a highlight colour and click the edit button that appears next to it.  Type in the new name for the highlight and click save. Note that the names of highlights are specific to your account but not to individual books – changing the name of a highlight will affect all previous and future highlights made in all of your eBooks
Q. How do I add a note in my eBook?
A. There are four ways to add notes in your eBooks
  1. Select the text within the book that you wish to make a note about, click on the "Add Note" button at the top of the eBook.  A window will appear allowing you to choose the colour of your highlight and allowing you to enter notes into the large text box.  Choose the colour of your highlight (each highlight colour has an associated, customizable description) and enter any associated notes.  Click save.
  2. Select the text within the book that you wish to make a note about, click on the small down arrow next to the "Add Note" button at the top of the eBook.  Choose the colour of your highlight. (each highlight colour has an associated, customizable description). A window will now appear allowing you to enter text into the large text box.  Click save when you have finished.
  3. Ensure you have notext selected on screen. Now click on the down arrow next to the "Add Note" button at the top of the eBook, choose the colour you wish to highlight with (each highlight colour has an associated, customizable description), now select text on the page, the text will instantly be highlighted in your selected colour and a window will appear allowing you to enter text into the large text box.  Click save when you have finished.
  4. Bring up the Edit Highlight window by clicking on any highlight that you have already made in the eBook window or right clicking on the highlight in the Notes and Highlights panel and choosing edit highlight.  Click convert to note.  Enter text into the large text box. Click save when you have finished.

User Accounts

Q. How can I edit my profile / user account?
A.  You can edit your profile/user account from the My Account tab of the MyLiveBook homepage. You must be signed in first.
Q. How can I change my password
A.  You can change your password from the My Account tab of the MyLiveBook homepage.  You must be signed in first.  Please note that you password must be at least 8 characters long and contain a mixture of lowercase, uppercase, numbers and non alpha-numeric characters.
Q. Where can I see all my notes & highlights in one place (from all my eBooks)?
A.  You can see all of your notes and highlights on the My Annotations tab on the MyLiveBook home page.

FAQ

Q. I don’t have access to my email account so will be unable to click on the link in the activation email, what should I do?
A. We would recommend creating a free email account with an online email provider in order that you can create and activate your account.  At a future point when you have access to your normal email account you can change your email address from the My Account tab of the MyLiveBook homepage. Should you still have trouble activating your account please contact MyLiveBook Support for assistance.
Q. I didn’t receive the activation email when I signed up to MyLiveBook
A. It is possible that the email was moved to your spam folder.  Please check your spam folder and if possible add noreply@mylivebook.com to your list of safe senders.  You can request a new activation email by attempting to sign in to MyLiveBook with your email address and clicking on the link in the message

Q. Why do I have to enter my password when claiming a redemption code?
A. Because redemption codes can only be redeemed once it is important to ensure that the code is redeemed against your account.  Entering your password helps to alert you to the possibility that you are not signed in to your MyLiveBook account.
Q. Why am I told my redemption code is invalid?
A. Redemption codes could show up as invalid for a number of reasons
  • You are not entering a complete 36 digit redemption code string – check that the string meets the description of alpha-numeric, hyphen separated, 36 character string
  • You have included leading or trailing spaces when you have copied the complete 36 digit redemption code – try pasting the code into a text editor or word processor and look to see if there are spaces at either end of the code.  Copy the code again without the spaces and try the redemption process again.
  • The code you have been given does not exist in the MyLiveBook database – speak to your trainer, contact your training provider or contact MyLiveBook Support to have your redemption code validated.
  • The training provider has set an expiry date on the redemption code that has now expired – speak to your trainer, contact your training provider or contact MyLiveBook Support to have your redemption code validated.
  • The redemption code has already been used by you – check the my eBooks tab of your MyLiveBook account to see if the materials for your course or programme are already in your account.
  • The redemption code has already been used by another user - speak to your trainer, contact your training provider or contact MyLiveBook Support to have your redemption code validated.
Q. Why do I receive the message
You have entered an e-mail address for an unactivated account, please click here to resend the activation e-mail.
when I try to sign in?
A. In order to ensure that all MyLiveBook users have a valid email address an email is sent to the email address provided during the sign up process.  This email contains a link to activate your account.  Until the link in this email is clicked you will be unable to sign in to your MyLiveBook account.  It is therefore important that you create your MyLiveBook account against an email address that you will be able to access at the time of registration.
Q. Which web browsers are supported by MyLiveBook?
A. MyLiveBook has been developed to work with most modern web browsers on both Windows and Mac operating systems. Users of Internet Explorer may experience problems with layout and functionality. We would recommend reviewing your browser at https://browser-update.org/ to ensure that it is up to date.
Q. Will MyLiveBook work on mobile devices?
A. iOS and Android apps are available. Click on the links from the top of your account home page to download the apps. The apps have been optimised for display on devices with greater than 7" displays. Users of smaller devices may get a less optimised experience. MyLiveBook will work with reduced functionality via web browsers on Android and iOS devices.
Q. I cannot see the table of contents navigation tree in my eBook, how do I find it?
A. Click on the small white arrow half way down the left edge of your screen and/or drag the dividing bar to the left of the eBook content to resize the table of contents.
Q. How do I review the notes and highlights I have made in my eBooks?
A. Notes and highlights are available for searching from the My Annotations tab of your MyLiveBook account.  Notes and highlights within a specific eBook are displayed on the right hand side of the MyLiveBook web reader.  Notes and highlights within a specific eBook are searchable using the search box at the top of the eBook.  The results will be displayed in the right hand Notes and Highlights panel and will include matches from within the book content and within any notes you have made in the eBook.
Q. I cannot see the Notes and Highlights panel in my eBook, how do I find it?
A. Click on the small white arrow half way down the right edge of your screen and/or drag the dividing bar to the right of the eBook content to resize Notes and Highlights panel
Q. Why don’t I see the next and previous page buttons in the corners of the eBook?
A. Depending on the layout of your eBook the next and previous page buttons may not appear. This is normal and you can still navigate through your eBook using the links in the Table of Contents Tree or using the next and previous chapter buttons at the top of the eBook.
Q. Why can’t I select the text in the book to add a note or highlight?
A. Depending on how the content of the eBook has been created, some text may actually be part of an image.  It is not possible at this time to highlight any or all of an image.
Q. Why has the description of my highlight changed in my eBook?
A. The description of highlights is customisable across your account but not within individual titles. Changing the description of a highlight will change that description for notes and highlights in all previous and future highlights made in any of your eBooks.  If you need to make specific descriptive comments against highlights in a specific book then please make use of the Add Notes and Convert to Note feature.
Q. Why does MyLiveBook require that my password is of a certain strength?
A. Because MyLiveBook gives you access to many content owners copyrighted material it is important that your account security be as strong as possible to prevent unauthorised access.
Q. Will MyLiveBook work on my iPad or Android tablet?
A. iOS and Android apps are available. Click on the links from the top of your account home page to download the apps. The apps have been optimised for display on devices with greater than 7" displays. Users of smaller devices may get a less optimised experience. MyLiveBook will work with reduced functionality via web browsers on Android and iOS devices.
Q. Will MyLiveBook work on my iPhone or other mobile phone?
A. iOS and Android apps are available. Click on the links from the top of your account home page to download the apps. The apps have been optimised for display on devices with greater than 7" displays. Users of smaller devices may get a less optimised experience. MyLiveBook will work with reduced functionality via web browsers on Android and iOS devices.
